This program was filmed in the traditional hogan home of Medicine Man 'David Peters and his Juanita.  "The Peters pass on the oral tradition in the Navajo language and song then  follow it with the English translations.  The Sandpainting they demonstrate in this program is one of several hundred, however the basic procedure is always the same.  After grinding the stones and sifting the sand, the Peters show careful steps in the ancient rite, explaining the meaning of the sand colors and symbols.  37 minutes.

Maria Martinez, noted American Indian pottery maker of San Ildelfonso demonstrates the traditional American Indian ways, beginning with the spreading of sacred corn before clay is gathers.  Also shown are the mixings of clay, construction of pottery, hand decorating and building of the firing mound.  This National Park Service film is the classic original film and was the winner of CINE Golden Eagle:; Certificate of Creative Excellence, US.  Industrial Film Festival; Award, Second International Craft Film festival.  27 minutes.

Bonus feature: Meet Pablita Velarde. Born in 1918 at the Puebleo of Santa Clare and educated at a mission, her artistic talents were encouraged by her teachers.  Through her work at Bandelier National Monument in New Mexico, Pablita records the traditions of her ancient people, so that future tribal generations may understand their heritage.  Watch as she mixes her own paints from natural, earth found materials, sketching in the wilderness, teaching and capturing on canvas the essence of ceremonies, customs and present day Pueblo life  20 minutes.
